Cibi: Simple Japanese-inspired meals to share with family and friends

Author(s): Meg Tanaka; Zenta Tanaka

Food and Beverage

Cibi - meaning 'a little one' - is a book on home-style Japanese cooking inspired by the eponymous Melbourne caf and design space created by Meg and Zenta Tanaka. It contains 80 seasonally relevant recipes across vegetables, fish and seafood, meat, grains and noodles, and sweets, plus small features on elements of Japanese cooking and food culture, accompanied by beautiful photography and illustrations. The recipes, many designed for sharing, strongly reflect Meg and Zenta's ethos - a fresh approach to simplicity using quality produce. CIBI incorporates elements of Japanese design culture and glimpses of their young family's worlds in Collingwood, Tokyo, and Meg's birthplace, Okayama, alongside snapshots (in words and pictures) of the CIBI-feel: an enjoyment of food, community and sharing.

Product Information

CIBI is the love and life of Meg and Zenta Tanaka. After meeting at university in Adelaide and spending time travelling in Europe, they established CIBI ('a little one') in Melbourne more than 11 years ago as an expression of their way of living, their desire to create a space for people to enjoy and feel at home in, and to blend their backgrounds and experience in food, wine, design and architecture. At CIBI, Japanese sensibilities and their evolving Australian lifestyles are combined to create a community, driven by the key elements of head, hands and heart: a warm and welcoming space that marries simple, good food with sophisticated design to enrich the lives of customers, friends and family and to provide a sense of joy and happiness.
